What Is the 10th Anniversary Gift? Your Guide to Pewter

Ten years. A full decade of marriage. That's not a milestone you mark with something ordinary. The 10th anniversary is one of the most celebrated years on the traditional anniversary list, and it deserves a gift that carries the same weight.

The traditional 10th anniversary gift is pewter, and if you haven't worked with it before, you might be surprised by how elegant it is.

What Is the Traditional Gift for 10 Years of Marriage?

Pewter. It's the traditional material for the 10th wedding anniversary, part of a centuries-old European tradition that assigns a material to each year of marriage. The idea is that each material reflects the character of the relationship at that stage: lighter materials early on, stronger and more refined ones as the years add up.

By year ten, you've hit something significant. You've moved past the early years and into something that feels permanent. Pewter matches that. It's a metal with quiet strength, a soft silver tone, and a timeless quality that doesn't try too hard. It just feels right.

You'll sometimes see tin or aluminum listed for the 10th year in modern gift guides. Here's something most people don't realize: modern pewter is actually composed of 90–98% tin, with small amounts of antimony and copper added for strength. So if you're searching for a "tin anniversary gift," pewter is the traditional version of exactly that, just more refined and beautiful to work with.

What Does Pewter Symbolize?

Pewter is a soft, silvery metal that's been used for centuries in fine housewares and jewelry. It has a warmth to it that sets it apart from harder metals like silver or steel. It's elegant without being showy, and durable without being rigid.

For a 10th anniversary, that symbolism fits. A decade of marriage requires flexibility. It requires softness in the right moments and strength in others. Pewter holds both of those qualities, which is part of why it's endured as the traditional material for this milestone.

Pewter also has very little patina compared to copper or bronze. It keeps its soft silver tone over time, which means a pewter gift will look just as beautiful years from now as it does the day it arrives.

Pewter Anniversary Gifts: What We Make

Pewter is one of our most popular anniversary materials. Here's what we handcraft in our South Carolina studio:

Hammered Pewter Ring Dishes

Our hammered pewter ring dishes have a classic dimpled texture that catches light and gives each piece a distinctly handcrafted look. I hammer each dish into shape from flat sheet pewter, then hand-stamp it with your custom message: names, dates, tally marks, Roman numerals, or a short phrase.

Pewter is a softer metal than copper or bronze, so we use a noticeably heavier gauge for our pewter pieces. The result is a thicker, more substantial dish than our copper or bronze versions. Despite pewter being a more expensive raw material, we keep our pricing the same across all three metals, so you're getting that extra weight and quality at no added cost.

Hammered dishes come in round (small and medium) and square styles. The medium round dish is a great option if you want something with a little more presence on a nightstand or dresser, and it works just as well for men as it does for women.

"I Still Do" Pewter Ring Dishes

Our "I still do" collection features pre-designed layouts with no customization needed, at a lower price point. These come in both round and square hammered styles. They're a beautiful, simple way to mark the milestone without needing to decide on a custom message.

Brushed Pewter Square Dishes

Our brushed pewter dishes have a completely different feel from the hammered pieces. Instead of the dimpled texture, they have a smooth, linear finish that looks clean and modern. These are plain, with no stamping, which gives them a minimalist quality that appeals to people who prefer simple, understated design.

The brushed finish is actually more labor-intensive than the hammered. I brush the metal first, then shape it with a larger hammer to smooth it into form, then brush it again after shaping. The result is a sleek, refined dish that still has the handcrafted weight and quality of our hammered pieces.

If your partner leans toward modern, minimal style, the brushed square dish is a standout.

Pewter Keychains

Our pewter keychains are hand-hammered and hand-stamped with your custom message, letter by letter. The soft silver tone makes stamped lettering pop, which is one of the reasons pewter keychains are among our most popular personalized gifts.

They're designed to be carried every day. Personal, practical, and small enough to go everywhere.

Not Just for the 10th Anniversary

Pewter is the traditional material for the 10th anniversary, but honestly, it's one of our most versatile metals. The soft silver tone complements almost any style, which makes pewter ring dishes and keychains beautiful gifts for any anniversary year, not just the 10th.

They also make wonderful gifts for moms and daughters. If you're looking for something personal and lasting outside of an anniversary, a pewter ring dish is a thoughtful choice that works for birthdays, Mother's Day, or just because.
